Healthy Kitchens Healthy Lives

Broccoli, not violence….(Idioms galore)

So…..

Yesterday I was asked by an interviewer on a radio show if we should arrest parents of obese kids. I replied that although I can understand the frustrated sentiment, I would rather focus on education. Yesterday is done, let’s educate and set up programs that parents/kids attend (if it is a child protective services issue) and voluntary if it is not required.

Today I was interviewed by Lisa, the host at a radio show in El Paso, Texas. She said that she wanted to walk over to “fat parents feeding their fat kids chips in the park and slap them.” Seriously, on air-live. I suggested that most likely that was not a good idea and that it would serve no purpose. No one needs any more guilt, and besides she would be arrested, so let’s move forward in the spirit of service and trying to educate and improve everyone’s health. She asked me to come back on her show next Thursday to help her with ways to channel some of this rather destructive energy. She can’t do it on her own. I agreed.

So now, most likely because it’s 108 degrees and my daughter Kathryn and I are sitting here working and getting a little punchy, we started working on slogans to alleviate violent natures and focus instead on education. We thought a catchy slogan, perhaps idiom based, might be a good idea….how about?….

Broccoli is mightier than the sword.
Who want a piece of this broccoli? (with an mafia accent of course)
A taste of your own broccoli.
Add fuel to the broccoli
All broccoli and no bite.
Beating around the broccoli
Between broccoli and a hard place.
Come hell or high broccoli
Cut to the broccoli
Drastic times call for drastic broccoli
Flash of broccoli in the pan.
Great minds think broccoli
Go for broccoli
Have a broccoli to grind?
Always bite the broccoli that feeds you
Over my dead broccoli
Don’t let sleeping broccoli lie

Enough broccoli idioms for one day?

O.K. Some of these might be a stretch, but we’re both cracking up…weird senses of humor…

Do you have any better ideas? We’ll change frustrated somewhat aggressive natures into humor and then move on from there.
