TLC or Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes
Hello everyone,
The National Institutes of Health (the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) have a new booklet available just in time for National Cholesterol Education Month in September. The booklet details lifestyle alterations with regards to weight management, exercise and diet to bring cholesterol levels down so as to avoid heart disease. I have read it and it offers many useful tips. It was good to see that they don't tout cholesterol-lowering drugs unless lifestyle changes are not affective.
There are some foods that they recommended that I wouldn't such as bagels and other refined products, but for the most part, it's a booklet worth ordering. I suggest you read it. Remember, we are all biochemical individuals and everything they suggest might not work for you. Read it and discuss any questions with your health practitioner.
From their web site:
For an online version of the new booklet, go to: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/chol/chol_tlc.htm. Printed copies are available for $4.00 through the NHLBI website or from the NHLBI Information Center at P.O. Box 30105, Bethesda, MD 20824-0105, or at 301-592-8573 or 240-629-3255 (TTY).
Healthy regards,
Patty
